With all of the snow fall that has been happening in the mountains lately, it's the perfect time to get out there and explore the fresh powder with the kids! We have a list of some great hills in the Tahoe area, most of which are perfect for you and your little ones to have a great time playing in the snow!

1. Tahoe Meadows Snow Play Area

Most popular, and arguably the best sledding spot in the area is found at Tahoe Meadows. No parking or usage fees and plenty of spots for sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or just playing in the snow, Tahoe Meadows is located along Mount Rose Highway about 20 miles outside of Reno. Best parking is near the trailhead for the Tahoe Rim Trail on either shoulder of the highway. Location: 22222 Mount Rose Highway.

2. North Tahoe Regional Park Snow Play Area

North Tahoe Regional Park has rentable sleds for day use. There are tickets for sale for the snow play areas. Snowmobiles are available for rent from the office located near the main parking lot. There is a $5 day-use fee. Location: 6600 Donner Road, Tahoe Vista.

3. Spooner Summit Snow Park

Spooner Summit is a free snow play area with hills for sledding and tubing. No permits or fees but, there are no rentals of clothing or equipment, so come prepared with everything you need for a day out in the snow. Location: U.S. 28 at U.S. 50.

4. Sierra-at-Tahoe

Blizzard Mountain at Sierra-at-Tahoe has two lift-accessible tubing lanes for kids and adults 42 inches and taller, and an expanded snow play area for sledding and exploring. Bring your own or use sleds rented from the resort. Blizzard Mountain snow play area, which costs $10 per person for access, provides toys with no usage fee as well as fire pits and s’mores. Location: 1111 Sierra at Tahoe Road, Twin Bridges, California.

5. Incline Village Snow Play Area

Gently sloping and suitable for the youngest of you families' sledders. Bring your own equipment and enjoy this free and mellow snow play area where little ones can test out their snow legs without fear of speeding sledders. Location: 955 Fairway Blvd., Incline Village.

6. Tahoe Donner Snow Play Area

Admission prices range from $0 - $19 at Tahoe Donner which has sledding, tubing and dedicated snow play areas. All necessary equipment comes with the park entrance fee. Hot cocoa and fire pits are available on premises, and a variety of special events are planned throughout the season. Location: 12790 Northwoods Blvd., Truckee.

7. Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows

SnoVentures Activity Zone at Squaw Valley provides snow play areas, a snow-park-adjacent lodge and even mini-snowmobile rentals for kids. Gently-sloping terrain with dedicated areas for tubing and sledding, as well as beginner skiers and snowboarders, can be accessed here. The older kids will have the most fun on the tubing runs. The lodge contains fire pits for roasting marshmallows and warming up between runs, and rates run $29 for 55-minute sessions on the tubing hills. Location: 1960 Squaw Valley Road, Squaw Valley.
