Does the opportunity to express your creative side AND make the world a cleaner place sound appealing? Then a visit to Roseville's reCREATE art studio – where the motto is "More art. Less waste" – is a good time waiting to happen.
A registered 501(c)3 nonprofit, reCREATE was founded in 2008 upon its mission is to support Roseville's schools and artistic community while helping regional businesses produce less waste. The next year, the City of Roseville and reCREATE were recognized for their partnership and awarded a reuse grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board. reCREATE consist of a 3,300 square-foot art studio and Reuse Store, located at 8417 Washington Blvd. (Suite #135).
Its Eco-Art Studio offers what reCREATE calls "Creation Combustion," its drop-in crafting program where artists can come in for $6.00 per creator per hour and create artwork utilizing select stocked reuse materials. Materials for drop-in projects include cardboard tubes and containers, colorful paper, beads, foam pieces, packing material, fabric and trim samples, corks, bottle caps, colorful plastic caps and doodads, leather scraps, containers of different kinds, yarn, sparkly tape, rubber bands, telephone wire, and so much more. reCREATE provides glue, tape, glue sticks, markers, and scissors to help bring your creations to life.
reCREATE's Reuse store is also open to the public. Here artists who prefer to create on their own time can purchase quality art materials from fabric and scrap-booking supplies to architectural samples, tiles and various manufactured by-products and over-runs. As a nonprofit, reCREATE's goal is to continue to divert usable items from entering the waste stream, so they sell items through its Reuse Store at very low prices.
reCREATE Eco-Art Studio and Reuse Store is open Wednesday through Friday from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. reCREATE offers workshops for both adults and kids, and is a great place to hold a creative child's birthday party.
